New spring menu at Café Ikon

07 April 2010

This week Café Ikon launches its spring menu of lunch and dinner tapas plus a refreshed selection of wine, cavas and sherries.

Cafe Ikon

Café Ikon’s Express lunch menu is now offered 12-3pm Monday to Friday (three tapas for £7.95). By popular demand, the full menu is available all day at weekends as well as weekday evenings.

Additions to the menu include gambas al pil pil (prawns with chilli and garlic), morcilla con jamon (Spanish black pudding with ham and tomatoes) and pintxos morunos (marinated lamb with spices). Anyone familiar with the Balearics should look for sobrasada de Mallorca: the soft pimenton-flavoured paté is the national sausage of the islands and makes its debut to Café Ikon.

New vegetarian options include Judías y cebullas con tomates y jeréz (fine green beans and onions with tomatoes and sherry), puerros gratinados (leeks with cream and goats’ cheese) and coliflor rebozada (cauliflower tempura).

The cake and dessert menu has expanded with the Barcelona classic churros con chocolate (doughnuts with chocolate sauce) and las peras y las higos escalfados en vino tinto (pears and figs poached in red wine). Those with less of a sweet tooth might choose tabla de quesos (a selection of Spanish cheese).

With help from Birmingham wine merchant Connolly’s, the drinks menu has been updated with an interesting selection of Spanish wines, cavas and sherries. The classic accompaniment to tapas, deliciously aromatic Manzanilla, Fino and Amontillado sherries are now available by the glass and half-bottle. Café Ikon has also added Jing loose-leaf teas to its range, including white peony white tea, flowering jasmine peach tea and jade sword green tea.
