For the next three years Ikon is the Arts Champion for Northfield, making a commitment to providing arts activities for a wide range of communities there. As part of the 2011/12 Arts Champions’ Programme Ikon is running a series of experimental drawing workshops in collaboration with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group exploring composition and graphic music scores. A number of Drawing Rooms pop up across the four wards of Northfield- Frankley, Northfield, Kings Norton and Weoley – throughout February and March.
Ikon is a member of the Northfield Arts Forum, a network for local artists, musicians, writers and performers. Each constituency in Birmingham now
has an Arts Forum led by local arts organisations to support local arts development and to create a citywide network for artists and creatives.
Arts Champions is a Birmingham City Council initiative pairing up city centre arts organisations with one of the ten Birmingham constituencies. Prior to our new relationship with Northfield, Ikon spent six years as the Arts Champion for Erdington, working with thousands of residents and local organisations including The Cube artist-run space, Erdington Library and The John Taylor Hospice.
