From Wednesday 4 June, Ikon will be keeping its doors open late every Wednesday throughout the summer. Visitors to Ikon will be able to experience stunning exhibitions by artists from around the world, browse in one of Birmingham’s only remaining independent bookshops and enjoy a glass of wine and tapas in the much celebrated Café Ikon.
Each Wednesday night, there will also be a series of special events entitled These are a few of my favourite things loosely based on Desert Island Discs where speakers will present their eight most memorable artistic experiences illustrated by a slide show. Ikon is proud to announce that renowned Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet, David Bintley will be launching the season on Wednesday 4 June at 6.30pm with his personal selection.
In June and July, Ikon also welcomes writer Sadie Plant (18 June), 7 Inch Cinema’s Ian Francis (25 June) and author Catherine O’Flynn (9 July).
Ikon Late Night Wednesdays run until Wednesday 10 September. The galleries and bookshop have extended opening until 8pm and Café Ikon is open until 11pm. Admission to Ikon is always free.
