Hardback, colour images, 10 thick pages, W210 x H300mm

Comprised of thick cardboard pages and with five double-page brightly coloured images from Lisa Milroy’s 2007 exhibition at Ikon, this publication has a childlike quality that is reminiscent of children’s picture books. It echoes the dream-like world explored in Milroy’s recent work, whereby the artist created a contrived landscape in the gallery, surrounding visitors with large-scale canvases depicting images of an ornamental garden. The rolling lawns, ornamental lake, island and bridge, and trees full of pink blossom represented in the paintings allude to the five senses, a theme that is explored in depth in this publication’s introductory essay, written by Dawn Ades – a trustee of Tate and a specialist in Surrealist Art, Fellow of the British Academy.

This text provides an insight into Milroy’s work and includes a focus on the Renaissance tapestries that provided the initial inspiration for the exhibition. The publication also includes a list of works and a selection of working drawings produced by Milroy in her development of the paintings.
