Ikon stairwell*
Marking the second anniversary of the Egyptian revolution, Ikon presents an exhibition by photojournalist Mosa’ab Elshamy. This striking series of images highlights every form of defiance shown by the Egyptian people, from facing the army’s guns and teargas unarmed; the elections and makeshift clinics; to breaking tarmac into weapons; street battles and Molotov cocktails.
Mosa’ab Elshamy is an Egyptian photojournalist who has been covering the ongoing clashes since the revolution began in January 2011. In the last two years, he has had cameras confiscated, been shot and illegally arrested, all at the hands of the Egyptian army.
*Please note that this exhibition is only accessible via a long staircase.
