Sited outdoors, Margaret Barron’s miniature oil paintings confounded expectations of where paintings can be seen and by whom. Focusing on Birmingham’s infamous Bullring Shopping Centre, Barron was concerned to depict the distinctive 1960’s architecture and spirit of the place before its demolition. The title given to the series refers to the rapid re-development that is occurring in this historical trading district. Thus the paintings constitute instant nostalgic vignettes.
