IKON

Pamela Scott Wilkie

Passing Through

29 January – 04 July 2008

City Inn Birmingham, 1 Brunswick Square, Brindleyplace, B1 2HW

This exhibition was a survey of paintings and prints by Pamela Scott Wilkie, an artist closely involved with the development of Ikon in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1972 she exhibited Journey at Ikon’s Swallow Street gallery, a series of silk screen prints inspired by an overland expedition she made through the Middle East to Pakistan, produced whilst on the road. More
recent works similarly convey a preoccupation with travelling, the threads that are pulled through different geographies, mainly due to the unique sensibility
of the traveller. Horizons is a new series of 18 limited edition prints which were especially produced for this exhibition. Birmingham’s City Inn Hotel – a stopping place for people on journeys – could not have been a more appropriate venue.
