Logutov’s videos involve a careful use of digital technology, conveying disturbing observations on the nature of modern life. Twilight (2005) depicts a city crossroads that increasingly contradicts everyday reality. Red traffic lights are reflected as green in the rain soaked streets, an old woman walking behind a waiting van becomes two identical old women, and a number of strolling pedestrians are strangely headless. In Episode (2005), a young man is beaten up mercilessly in a bleak public space whilst passers-by pay no attention. Logutov’s world is ‘out of joint’, a world that doesn’t work according to comfortable rules.
