Writing in Space

03 November 2004 – 10 January 2005

The work of exhibiting artist Georges Adéagbo was used as a starting point for Writing in Space, a project which engaged Year 5 children from St Edmund’s School, Ladywood, Birmingham to work creatively, both visually and verbally.

Artist Lorna Rose, who specializes in 3D and textile work and Birmingham’s Poet Laureate Roz Goddard encouraged the children to go on their own ‘journeys’, around their school and home environments and, like Adéagbo, collect objects and curiosities en route.

A selection of the children’s final work was exhibited at Ikon in February 2005 and they attended their own private view where a set of commemorative postcards were launched of their work.

This project was funded by Birmingham City Council and the Oakdale Trust.
