IKON

here, there and everywhere

20 September 2003 – 10 February 2004

here, there and everywhere was an exhibition of work by pupils and teachers from George Dixon International, Handsworth Grammar, Handsworth Wood Girls, Holte and Mayfield Schools, all located in Birmingham. The exhibition resulted from a collaboration with George Shaw, whose exhibition, What I did this Summer, was presented at Ikon in September 2003. Fellow artist Carolyn Morton supported the process and together, the artists encouraged the pupils to focus on the places and spaces of their own everyday experience.

The resulting exhibition and accompanying book was an extraordinary combination of visions that provided an opportunity to reflect critically on how young people feel and think about where they live. The work combined creativity with social commentary, passion, personal reflection and a powerful sense of shared learning.

This project was funded by Creative Partnerships.
