The Nightingale

01 February – 28 March 2005

This video piece explores issues of racial stereotyping through a clever combination of textile art, performance and sound. The artist uses a piece of cloth and simple movements to transform her identity, slowly revealing herself in a series of different representations, each symbolising a different woman and culture.

Focusing on the global disconnection between the East and West, the video manages to be both joyful and unsettling, developing with the rhythm of the music and pausing into moments of sculptural beauty.
