From its beginnings in a small kiosk in Birmingham's Bullring, Ikon's reputation for innovation, internationalism and excellence has developed over 40 years. For over four decades, Ikon Gallery has maintained its lead at the cutting edge of contemporary art, presenting a wide ranging artistic programme through gallery exhibitions, off-site projects and educational and outreach work in the local community.

 

Core funding is received from Arts Council England and Birmingham City Council but in order to continue its vital the work, the gallery also undertakes a continuous programme of fundraising.

 

Ikon needs your support and there are several ways that you can help the gallery to continue to exhibit the very best contemporary visual art from around the world. In return for your support, Ikon offers a wide range of benefits.

Education

Education at Ikon


An educational charity, Ikon has an extensive outreach programme, undertaking life-changing work within the local community through the delivery of award-winning talks, events and practical workshops. Since the establishment of the learning programme, over 2,500 local school children of all ages and abilities have benefited from the scheme. By supporting this programme, Ikon can assist individuals and companies in making links with the community, fulfilling corporate social responsibilities and generating positive media coverage.

 

Ikon is forward thinking and challenging, bringing cutting-edge art to the people and pushing new ideas into the public arena. Renowned for showcasing the best new artists from around the world, Ikon is one of Europe’s most highly regarded contemporary galleries. Many exhibitions tour to cities such as New York, Milan, Tokyo and Moscow, attracting widespread public and media attention for the gallery and its supporters.

 

Located in Brindleyplace, one of Birmingham’s most prestigious commercial, retail, leisure and residential developments, Ikon is increasingly becoming an attraction for the city’s many visitors. With over 10,000 visitors to each exhibition and over 8,500 people working within Brindleyplace, our corporate partners’ brands and profiles receive a wide audience.
