IKON

Leave a Legacy

For over 40 years Ikon has been committed to bringing the very best in international contemporary visual art to audiences in Birmingham.

By choosing to remember Ikon in your Will you can make a gift that has a lasting effect.

As a registered charity, help from Ikon's supporters is vital to our future. Anyone can leave a legacy gift and all contributions, big or small, make a real difference.

Why support Ikon

Ikon is dedicated to encouraging a wide range of audiences to enjoy contemporary visual art. Entrance to the gallery and our off-site venues is free for everyone. Each year 6,000 children, young people and adults participate in our programme of workshops and events, 120,000 people visit our exhibitions in Birmingham. A further 150,000 experience our work nationally and internationally.

Annually Ikon hosts over twenty exhibitions by artists from around the world and commissions up to eighty new works. We are currently Birmingham's only permanent contemporary visual arts space.

Ikon makes a real and ongoing contribution to the cultural life of Birmingham, something we would like to offer for many years to come. You can help us to achieve this.

How to leave a legacy

To make an addition to your current Will or to create a new one you will need to consult a solicitor. They can help you to create a codicil which is a simple supplement to your current Will in which you can include new instructions without having to rewrite the whole Will. Alternatively if you have not already made a Will they can advise you on the creation of one. You can of course change your Will at any point in the future in regard to your gift to Ikon.

Below we have provided some suggested wording for you, which includes our charity number and address details:

I leave [.............] to Ikon Gallery Limited of 1 Oozells Square, Brindleyplace, Birmingham B1 2HS, registered charity number 528892

More about legacies

When looking to make a legacy gift it is important to consult a solicitor for expert advice. There are a number of options to choose from when making a gift:

A residuary legacy is a percentage of what remains of your estate after your family and friends are provided for and any legal costs have been settled
A pecuniary legacy is a fixed sum you would like to allocate
A specific or non-monetary legacy is a gift of an asset such as a property, shares or a work of art

Leaving a legacy can be tax-effective as gifts to charities are exempt from inheritance tax.

A legacy for general use is the most beneficial way of supporting the gallery's aims. It means we have the flexibility to use your gift in the area where we have the greatest need now and in the future.

Alternatively if you would like to support a particular section of our work we would be pleased to discuss this with you - perhaps you would like to give a gift towards one of the following:
Learning and educational activity
Exhibitions or the commissioning of new work

Acknowledgement
If you do decide to leave a legacy to Ikon we would love to hear from you so we can be sure to thank you for your generosity. Of course this is completely your decision and it is not necessary to inform us of your gift. But if you do choose to, then we would be delighted to keep you, or someone close to you, informed and involved with the gallery. We would also like to acknowledge your generosity.
